Today – May the Fourth Be With You! – is release day for my new novel Covenant City (available as a paperback at Amazon and Ingram, and as an e-book on Amazon and other platforms). The story is told by a 19-year old Richmonder caught up in the purge and refashioning of his hometown as an all-white neo-nationalist right-wing Christian wet dream, replete with worship of the President, eugenic sperm banking, killer robots, trad wives and Optimo bro’s, Last Days strategies, euthanasia for the old and disabled, and a jaw-implanted AI that oversees it all. So, a near-future glimpse of what the White House really seems to want, in all its ugly absurdity.
I'm thrilled to announce that my favorite local bookstore Book People has once again offered to host a launch event on Saturday June 6th, the second anniversary of the wonderful launch they held for my previous novel The Night Doctor of Richmond. This time around, we’re planning an iced tea and cookies afternoon, from 1 – 3 pm at the store (10464 Ridgefield Parkway, in the Gleneagle Shopping Center), where my longtime friend mystery author Katy Munger and I will discuss our new books. Hers is titled Monkey See Monkey Do, the eighth in her thrilling Casey Jones detective series, and like mine posits a town crushed beneath the weight of a bullying politician. Katy is one of the sharpest, funniest and most engaging writers I know, both on the page and in person, and this chat is sure to be a hoot.
So please do come see us at Book People on Saturday June 6 (from 1 – 3 pm). As I said, we’ll have iced tea and cookies and books to sign, right inside Richmond’s most welcoming bookstore, ready to fill your beach bag with summer reads.
